Abstract

A new material was synthetized using the wet precipitation method to obtain an osseous insert that can be used in medical applications. A solution of CaCl2 198 mM and another one with 119 mM of (NH4)2HPO4 dissolved in distilled water were simultaneously prepared with the slowly and continuous addition of NH4OH dissolved in water. Finally, 3 ml of collagen was aggregated to the solution. The precipitated was washed out several times with distilled wáter, filtered and dried in an incubator at 40 °C. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, surface electronic microscopy, Fourier transformation based infrared spectroscopy. Three different cubes composites with the volume of 10 x 10 x 10 mm3 each one were prepared and implanted into the dtygre sacrum of a female dog to check the osseous integration and the biocompatibility of the new material. Histological and radiographic studies were developed showed the development of osseous callus and the consequent formation of new bone section.
